Just a suggestion.. (I posted the same in a comment elsewhere ;-))
Rather than redirect the download to dl.sourceforge.net when no default mirror is chosen, how about have the plugin randomly select one of the mirrors from its own internal list each time? This way, users could intentionally leave it blank and let it randomly choose a mirror each time a download is attempted.. and avoid certain bugs with SF's round-robin mirror choices (dl.sourceforge.net has never seemed to work properly for me or anyone else I know of..)
Time permitting, perhaps the plugin could also check for a 404 error first, since not all mirrors are current or carry every single file. In this case, the plugin could randomly try other mirrors until it finds a mirror with the desired download.. With configurable limit, of course. It should give up after a limited number of 404 errors, in case someone tries to download "this-project-doesnt-really-exist.zip"..Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 - [3] Submitted by: Alex Badea * on Monday 12th December 2005 at 01:53 -0500

@CM:
Interesting ideas. Perhaps requiring slightly more time than I have available right now, but I'll add this to my TODO list.
Of course, if you'd like to send me a patch for these, I'll be sure to incorporate it ;)

It would be nice if it didn't make the settings window so high, as I on my laptops 1024x768 resolution, have difficulties hitting the "OK" button once the list has been downloaded.

Since the upgrade to 1.4 and even 1.4.1 (or perhaps was it Firefox 1.5.0.1?), this great extension does not work any more. By that, I mean that having it activated or not does not have any effect on a download on sourceforge :(
When I click on a link that should go to sourceforge, I still see the sourceforge.net page where I should choose a mirror. Before, the download was just starting...I have Firefox 1.5.0.1 US
But when it was working, this extension was one of my favorite!

@Huygens:
Thanks for your interest in sfdirectdl.
After some investigation, I found that the behaviour you're describing happens if sfdirectdl has no preferences (at all). For example, immediately after installing. Try re-selecting a mirror in the options dialog. If that fails (although shouldn't), try the old uninstall/restart/reinstall/restart method. If _that_ fails, feel free to drop me another note and/or email.
I'll probably have this fixed in the next release, although it only seems to happen for the very first-time install.
Cheers.

Seems to be a useful extension, but it doesn't reveal the mirrors after retreiving the mirror list. This is how it looks like on my computer after retreiving the list (Mac OS X 10.4.6, Firefox 1.5.0.3):

The latest version 0.4.1 doesn't work for me at all:

@Cristine:
Yes, the invisible mirror list is a bug that I keep forgetting about since I always resize the window by hand, and the width and height are persistent. Fixed in version 0.4.2.

German locale seems to be broken. It looks like an encoding problem, because charset of /de-DE/sfdirectdl.dtd isn't UTF-8.
If you save /de-DE/sfdirectdl.dtd UTF-8 encoded, no errors appear.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 - [13] Submitted by: DaSilva on Tuesday 30th May 2006 at 20:26 -0400

@NW:
Indeed. Presumably, SourceForge doesn't allow direct mirror selection for links outside sf.net (and I don't feel like hacking the Referer header just for this ;).
Current workaround is to right-click, "Open original link" and use SF's mirror-selection.

In other news, release 0.4.3 should work for all disgruntled German users :) We appologise for the inconvenience.

@Alex Badea
so why not just make it go to the mirror selection site when the plugin detects that it is outside sf.net.
btw, i think sourceforge's subscription service allows direct download, so my guess is they blocked it for this reason.

Sorry to post this here but I did not want to go through the process of signing up for the mailing list just to tell you this!
SourceForge have changed the way that they do download links on their pages - they now look like:
Therefore, I have changed line 50 in linkwatch.js to:
var re = /^http:\/\/(pr)?downloads\.s(ource)?f(orge)?\.net\/(.*?)\/(.*?)(\?[^ ]*)?$/i;
and this seems to work ok now. (Note: It should still work with the old format as well.)
I hope this is useful.

It looks like the link above was filtered out - try this:
hxxp: // downloads.sourceforge.net / PROJECT / FILE_TO_DOWNLOAD ? modtime=1165843010 & big_mirror=0
You should see a link above. If so, change hxxp to http and remove the spaces to get the true link.

Sorry, you also need to add 1 to all of the RegExp.$n instances on lines 54-55 to allow for the extra pair of brackets added near the beginning of the regular expression (e.g. RegExp.$2 becomes RegExp.$3 etc.).

Because of changes at SourceForge, this extension no longer works very well but, as the developers do not consider this extension useful any more, it has been deprecated and will no longer be developed. Therefore,
I have put an updated version which includes some enhancements on the Extensions Mirror:www.extensionsmirror.nl /
I hope that people find it useful. (I do!)
